Girl of Fire and Thorns series |Book review

Hello hope you guys are having a lovely day.

As said in my last post I have been awfully busy but I thought I would ease back in with a review of a series.
Book 1
I recently discovered Goodreads, which is a great way to sort through books you've read, would like to read and what others recommend. Browsing through books that were recommended to fit my reading style I fell upon 'Girl of Fire and Thorns' by Rae Carson. I decided to read it for a school project that was coming up and six days later I had finished the whole trilogy.

I was immediately taken with the mixture of the fantasy and coming of age genres. I found myself identifying with the struggles of the main character Elisa. She has low self-esteem, bad family relations and is thrown into an adult world with high expectations for her. She is blessed by 'God' as a baby and must now complete some act of service to her kingdom. The trilogy follows her as she makes friends for the first time in her 16
years of living, as she finds the inner strength to be happy with what life has handed her and as she falls in and out of love.

Book 2
I was rapt into a story similar to 'Graceling' by Kristin Cashore and that though nothing alike reminded me slightly of Game of Thrones by George R. Martin.  Rae Carson has a way of letting you get attached to characters only to reveal a new dimension to his/her personality through a devastating secret or plot twist leaving you jaw-dropped and aghast. I very quickly learned to hate some with a fiery passion and idolize others.

Not a moment of this series let me down, I have absolutely no reproaches. I loved the writing style, the storyline, the plot twists, the quirky personalities and even more so the ending. It is rare for me to put down a book and easily accept the final chapter as I often find myself expecting something better, however with this series I was pleasantly surprised, though i was sad to see this series end so soon I was happy with how the conflicts were resolved and where the now beloved favourite character was left.

This series is now permanently residing in my collection, where it will not have the opportunity to pick up dust as I will be forcing friends to read the books. I highly recommend the books to all and reassure you that you will not find these books lacking in the departments of adventure, self-empowerment and magic.
