Exchange Students
Last year my family hosted a Hungarian exchange student. She
left the host family she was staying with, as their lifestyles clashed, and
came to live with us for 4-5 months. I knew her quite well, we had gotten close
at school.
I have to say it was one of the best things we could have
done. I learned so much about myself and my friend, Bella. Though I found myself often needing space to
myself, we had so much fun together. From photoshoots to singing terribly at
the top of our lungs and to gushing about the boys at school. She taught me that’s
its okay to let loose and be the crazy somewhat girly person I have become.
This summer she visited for 10 days, which wasn’t nearly
long enough. And I know that we will remain close for the rest of our lives. We
bonded as sisters and love each other just as much. One day hopefully I will be able to visit her in
Budapest (Hungary) and it will be my turn to be welcomed to her family.
Befriending exchange students is something I love, you get
to share your culture and learn theirs. The experience of living with Bella is
something I wouldn’t trade in a lifetime, I gained a sister and I gained a
friend.
