On My Shelf | The Scent of Rain
Welcome back to another book review! I haven't done one of these in a while but I am back in full swing with a review of the novel; " The Scent of Rain". This is a really good teen 'Chick Lit' that I thoroughly enjoyed and that I recommend to girls looking for light romance.
The story is about a girl, Daphne who is left at the altar. The experience makes her lose her sense of smell, this causes a bit of a problem seeing as she is a perfume designer. The novel takes us through her journey of starting a new job, meeting new friends and dealing with the heartbreak of her failed marriage.
I don't believe i have ever laughed out loud to the point of crying while reading a book, but 'The Scent of Rain' gave me a first. Daphne is a character so relatable to everyone, she is awkward and shy yet seemingly confident, confused and searching.
By recounting moments of this novel i have convinced several friends who can never bring themselves to read Chick Lit to read this novel.
While most novels may have elements in them that you could never believe to be true, this is a story that could very easily be reality which is what makes so incredibly funny and pitiable. I have reread it several times since purchasing it, and the worn cover is proof that the recent buy was worth it.
The author Kristin Billerbeck successfully brought to tears of both laughter and sadness and should I happen to see other pieces of her work I shall most definitely be reading them.
